NEWS LETTERS

I have found that subscribing for different kind of reports is very useful to get new perspectives of world problems

I’m subscribed, obviously, to El Universal, but also El Pais, Washington Post, New York Times,  The Huffington Post.

I recive also the security report of  Homeland Security from the United States. What they do is collect all the information about hot themes. When something happened in your own country and that event is reported in the Homeland Security Report, suddenly is a different story. Today (friday,  december 5th) they hava a story about Lego minitoys dressed like islamic terrorists. The story is from Fox News that I usually don’t check, now whe have the story in owr web page. So keep it in mind

 So as it turns, it is not really something America should be worried about, but it certanlly is a good conversation topic.

Also I am subscribed to www.nuestrobarrio.com.mx, is a new magazinne made for people who leaves in a very rich zone in Mexico City. It always has interviews with people is good to keep track on,  and since is very difficult to cover all Mexico City this zone editions are very helpfull finding local information that can affect the rest of the citizens, like traffic problems, security, etc.

About Huffington Post

I’ll be talking about my favorit blogs later this afternoon, but I want to stop in The Huffington Post right now.

The Huffington Post is mostly a blog about blogs, and I’m certain you know it. Two things have happend the last days that are interesting.

One, the published a book about blogging. You can see in the video Ariana Huffington trying to convince Jon Stwart to blog and what he thinks about it.

And another is an invitation Huffington Post made to blog the financial crisis. They expalin there are a lot of experts talking about it, but you can feel the real crisis until real people talk about loosing jobs, not being able to pay for mortage, etc… it is, I think, a great idea!

Maybe I’m a little out of our goal, but I can’t resist the need to share this with you all. As you know, I’m multimedia coordinator in El Universal, in México.  That really means I’m in charge of bringing both online and print newsroom together. So, during the last months we expanded our online offer so more users can write to us. I know every newspaper has a “i report” section, and this is ours. I like this in particular for the images and the themes we recived from our readers.

Here I Am

Hi everyone!

Here’s my new blog. I’m a blogger now! I’ve been a journalist for many years but turning a web-journalist has been a big challenge. Today I must say that technology and I are even, ’cause I was able to put together this blog.

Even more, hand in hand with my tutors, I’m learning the advantages of RSS, of what I’m talking today. I get to my office at sunrise, literally, I start at 7 am, and my first window to the world is get into IGoogle to get the updated news. In my mail I get information from Washington Post, NY Times, my newspaper, El Universal, even the US Homeland Security Report. In 10 minutes I can catch up with news and start taking dessitions about how should we activate our site. 

That is even faster than if I had the real newspapers in my desk. ¿Is it as useful to you as it is for me?

Aquí estoy

Hola a todos!

Estoy estrenando blog, y también me estoy estrenando como blogguera. Soy periodista desde hace muchos años pero entrar a internet ha sido todo un reto, hoy he de decir que vamos empatadas la tecnología y yo porque ¡logré armar este blog!

Y más aún, de la mano de mis tutores, estoy conociendo la ventaja de RSS, de lo que hoy debo hablar. Llego al trabajo al salir el sol (literal) y mi primera ventana al mundo es entrar a mi google personalizado, para ver las noticias más importantes que están sucediendo. En mi correo recibo las noticias de El País, Washington Post, New York Times y mi periódico, El Universal. En 10 minutos tengo una idea clara de lo que ha sucedido, y en lo que tengo que trabajar.  Es aún más rápido que si pudiera revisar los periódicos en mi escritorio. ¿A ustedes les sucede igual?
